GROW23: How leading organisations unlock the power of their people

Written by Marijke van Voorst | October 21, 2026

What happens at GROW doesn't have to stay at GROW. At the first edition of our event, Hunkemöller, Rituals, Just Eat Takeaway, BLOS Kinderopvang and Louwman Dealer Group shared how they help their people grow. Here's what we learned.

Strategies that work

Missed GROW23? Or curious about the challenges our guests faced? Their stories show how employees become ambassadors who move their organisation forward. Special Forces Tussen Je Oren closed the day with a session on mental strength.

Be yourself, even as a CEO

Philip Mountford, CEO of Hunkemöller, opened the day. In his years at Hunkemöller, there was never a dull moment. Together with Anne Jaakke, former CHRO at Hunkemöller, he looked back on their work together. And he shared how you bring out the best in your people.

His key advice: be authentic. When Anne suggested baking a pink cake and sharing the moment with Hunkemöller employees, Philip was in straight away. He even went a step further and gave a glimpse of his life at home. That openness brought the whole team closer together.

“15 Years Hunkemöller; it has been an incredible journey.”

What our guests shared

Just Eat Takeaway

In winter, couriers spend a lot of time waiting for the next order. Just Eat Takeaway saw an opportunity in those lost minutes. Sjoerd Boermans, Global Head HR Technology, talked about the Courier Mission Game. They rolled it out across 11 countries in the winter of 2022.

The idea is simple. Hit your weekly goals and you unlock the game. Every week starts afresh, and there's no limit on the number of winners. So everyone keeps playing. It worked. 38% of all couriers played at least once, rising to 47% in Germany. And 45% of players would highly recommend Just Eat Takeaway as an employer.

Rituals

Rituals wants to deliver the best customer experience out there. To get there, the L&D team led by Daan Luitse, Senior Manager Digital Learning Strategy, rethought the way they work. He shared three choices.

  • Make learning a show. Rituals produces its own videos with the look and feel of a film. They are made to fit exactly what its people need.
  • Grow your team on a smaller budget. Each country takes ownership of learning. AI and smart processes keep costs low and reach high.
  • Build learning into the work. Rituals treats learning as a performance indicator. It sits in everyday work, so it never slides to the bottom of the list.

For Rituals, customer experience is never finished. And neither is learning.

BLOS Kinderopvang

Through a series of acquisitions, BLOS Kinderopvang quickly became one of the ten largest childcare organisations in the Netherlands. That raises one big question: how do you keep existing and new colleagues aligned?

According to Anoek Klein Swormink, Recruitment & Development Director, it starts with knowing what drives your people. That's how "I have to" becomes "I want to". On their learning platform BLOX, employees build on their own strengths. Short learning moments, podcasts and games help them grow. For example as a mentor for new colleagues, or in supporting children who need extra care. You can see how the approach developed further in the BLOS Kinderopvang customer case.

Louwman Dealer Group

The automotive sector is changing fast. Electrification, sustainability and a tight labour market make skilled people more valuable than ever. Martijn Bovée, Marketing Director at Louwman Dealer Group, showed how to stay adaptable without losing who you are.

Louwman has a hundred years of history, and that is its strength. So they tell their own story, with their people in the lead roles. A mechanic at work, a colleague on the phone, a salesperson talking to a customer. At open days, visitors meet those people in person. And with referral bonuses and events like the Louwman Dakar Challenge, they keep their specialists on board.

"It's easier to gather people around a purpose than to put a purpose into people."

Martijn Bovée, Marketing Director at Louwman Dealer Group

Mental strength is essential to personal growth

After a morning full of insights, Erik Wegewijs and Bas Kremer of Special Forces Tussen Je Oren (SFTJO) closed the day. They showed why mental strength is essential for personal growth. And they tackled a question many organisations wrestle with. How do you look after your people's wellbeing while still hitting your goals?

Their approach centres on personal leadership, resilience and balance. They have worked with a wide range of organisations. And they see time and again what their approach sets in motion.

"The professional can only excel when the individual is in balance."

Three takeaways from SFTJO

  1. Achieving excellence at work is possible when individuals maintain a sense of balance.
  2. The embedded philosophy of SFTJO serves as an anchor. It fosters resilience in a rapidly changing world, as described in the VUCA concept. VUCA shows the pressures on modern organisations. It stresses the need to be adaptable, flexible, and innovative in a changing world.
  3. Encouraging determination through effective leadership is a key part of SFTJO's approach.

Together, these principles create a workplace where wellbeing and progress go hand in hand. That's where an organisation reaches its goals.
